HIFI.NL REVIEWS THE V70 CLASS A

Some reviews mean more than a rating.

When years of dedication, engineering and a deep passion for music are recognised by someone who shares that same passion, it becomes something special.

We are truly proud that Max Delissen of HiFi.nl has awarded the Octave V 70 Class A with Super Black Box a perfect 10/10.

His appreciation for the musical performance, craftsmanship and technology behind our amplifier means a great deal to us.

Our sincere thanks to Max and HiFi.nl for taking the time to listen, explore and share this wonderful review.

Because in the end, it's all about the music.

V 70 SE Review from lite-magazin 03/2025 - English version

"The Octave V 70 SE combines tube amplification and semiconductor technology – delivering outstanding performance as a modern tube amplifier. Thanks to its pentode circuitry, push-pull operation, and Class AB mode, this amplifier delivers a whopping 70 watts. Thanks to Octave's signature sophisticated circuit optimization, comprehensive power management with controlling electronics, and tailor-made components such as special transformers manufactured in-house, this amplifier achieves exceptional load stability with a wide bandwidth, low distortion, and linear headroom. This effort pays off: The V 70 SE is incredibly fast and pulse-accurate, impressing with excellent dynamics, exceptionally fine resolution, a clear, and uncolored sound, operating with absolute contours and control down to the low-frequency bass regions. With its immense power and ample reserves, it easily drives even difficult loudspeakers and effortlessly delivers a powerful, punchy, fresh, and vibrant reproduction. The V 70 SE impresses us with its sonic excellence—and it can be further enhanced with an optional power supply extension. Fantastic!"

MRE 220 SE Review from stereophile 06/2024 - English version

"I would say that Andreas achieved what he set out to do: create an amplifier with the soul of a class-A combined with the muscle of high-powered AB. The result is a product like nothing I've heard before, which sounded bigger than life and natural simultaneously. The Octave V 70 had the spirit of cinema vérité in Technicolor. All things considered, I think the $15,900 asking price for the V 70 with the KT120 tubes and the Super Black Box is a pretty good deal."

V 110 SE Review from Home Theater and High Fidelity 03/2024 - English version

“The Octave Audio V 110 SE Integrated Amplifier is a very nicely built, medium power, tube product. It has the warm, lush sound that tube – o – philes love. Tube-rollers will enjoy tweaking the sound with various tubes, KT88s, KT120s, and others in that category. The bias can also be tweaked for specific purposes – you can increase the bias to achieve more Class A sound. I really enjoyed having it here.”

V 70 SE Review from Lyd&Bilde 04/2022 - Norwegian version

“Octave Audios integrerte V 70 SE, vil forbause flere enn oss.

V 70 SE Review from Lyd&Bilde 04/2022 - English version

“Octave Audio’s V 70 SE integrated amplifier will amaze others besides us. It truly shakes the prejudices that many have against valve amplifiers, and will win the enthusiasm of many for something they didn’t think they were ready for or interested in. It seems better built than many amps in higher price ranges, and sonically it can compete with many of them. The V 70 SE has better control over dynamics when playing loud, and seemed completely unaffected when blasting music out through our large KEF speakers. With the option of turntable input and extra filter capacity for extra heavy-duty speakers, it’s also a little more flexible than most integrated amps.”

Jubilee 300 B Review from HiFi review 10/2019 - Hong Kong version

"Any reason for spending over HK$ 500,000 on a pair of 300 B valve power amplifiers? Majestic? Yes, there has never been an erected 300 B valve amplifier of such a gorgeous stature. Filter 3-P Review from AUDIO 02/2019 - German version

“An effective filter like the 3-P from Octave can solve many or even all of the problems that arise in the local luxury chain due to interference signals in one fell swoop. Expensive toy? Filter 3-P Review from STEREO 01/2019 - German version

“As an (un)lucky coincidence would have it, a colleague is currently suffering from a nasty network hum after professional modifications to his home fuse box, which has so far refused to take any countermeasures. In fact, the filter was a resounding success here. At first there was still a slight amount of humming. However, the 3-P has a “Ground Lift” switch on the floor that disconnects the ground before the transformer. This function finally eliminated the remaining problem. Even beyond pure filtering, the module has proven to be a potent problem solver for high-end emergencies.”

V 16 Review from AUDIO 05/2018 - German version

"I admit it: I'm not a fan of efficiency monsters in loudspeakers. But since this test I've become a huge fan of single-ended triodes - when they're connected like in the Octave V 16. So far I haven't found a better single-ended triode. Power amplifier. The fact that the levels were comparatively quiet - so what? "Great joys from the Octave V 80 SE during its stay, driving a series of visiting speakers as well as our usual suspects. RE 320 Review from Audio Arts 02/2018 - Taiwanese version

"Octave RE 320 is a beautiful, sweet tube amp, it's a strong thrust, but not full of low-frequency feeling that kind of out, but with high and medium frequency flu with just right, it sounds Balance comfortable without exaggeration. Anyone with a neutral, high-quality loudspeaker will soon be drawn to the RE 320 sweet and scent like Japanese pear, and the sound quality is as fine as the flesh, leaving no residue at the entrance. "The most powerful and second-best integrated amplifier in the Octave range makes music with the emotional color and luminosity of the tube and the precision and control that one would otherwise associate with semiconductors. HP 300 SE Review from stereoplay 04/2014 - German version

"It can practically do everything between gentle, silky and aggressive, never seems too comfortable or even sluggish, let alone spongy, but can also claim a beneficial, small touch of warmth. This coordination is undoubtedly skilful and also has a lot of addictive potential - also through driving rhythm - and if required, even calm and elegance directed towards the listener."

V 40 SE Review from stereoplay 07/2009 - German version

"The V 40 SE not only appeared more refined when it came to voices, it also handled the individual electric piano tones more delicately, with kid gloves so to speak - so that they were allowed to sparkle even more intensely and beautifully like little shining stars."

V 80 Review from fairaudio 12/2008 - German version

"Best of both worlds“, mag eine Phrase sein, aber klanglich orientiert sich Octaves größter Vollverstärker V 80 in diese Richtung – und ist dabei doch ein reiner Röhrenverstärker, kein Hybrid."

Germany - fairaudio - Ralph Werner - December 2008

Phono Module Review from AUDIO 07/2007 - German version

"The Phono Module is also a preamplifier that you want to grow old with. Even with the fixed level output, on the same preamplifier through which the other preamps had to play, the Octave amazed you with a dynamic in the low-frequency range that simply seemed to come from a different dimension This atomic-powered power was even more noticeable on quiet, delicately produced records than on riotous pieces."

V 70 Review from AUDIO 08/2005 - German version

"A tube integrated amplifier - you're probably expecting warm-hearted softener sounds from the test. Forget it. The Octave V70 rocks. This tube integrated amplifier blows away prejudices. Powerful and fast-paced like few."

Germany - AUDIO - Lothar Brandt - August 2005

Overall rating from AUDIO: OUTSTANDING

HP 500 SE & MRE 130 Review from STEREO 05/2005 - German version

“With the Octaves HP 500 SE and two MRE 130 monos, not only is a sensational-sounding amplifier combination moving into the STEREO listening room, it is also a kind of declaration of war against old stereotypes and prejudices. Because this trio represents a modern and highly efficient tube concept.”

Germany - STEREO - Tom Frantzen - May 2005

Overall rating from STEREO: EXCELLENT
